Oklahoma has 77 counties covering 68,596 square miles and roughly 4,028,588 residents. The state was admitted to the Union in 1907 as the 46th state, and the current county boundaries reflect more than a century of administrative subdivision.

The largest county by land area is Osage County at 2,246 square miles, home to about 77,705 residents. The most populous is Oklahoma County with approximately 838,151 residents — a density of about 1,182 people per square mile.

At the other end of the scale, Harper County has only about 1,797 residents.

Oklahoma City is both the state capital and the largest city in Oklahoma.
