Disclaimer
SimpleMapLab provides geographic tools and data for informational and educational purposes. Please read the following limitations carefully.
Data accuracy
All data displayed on SimpleMapLab is derived from open, public-domain sources including the US Census Bureau, OpenStreetMap, Natural Earth, and Open-Meteo. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that every data point is correct, current, or complete.
Specific limitations include:
- Boundary data is based on Census TIGER/Line and Natural Earth files. Minor inaccuracies may exist at the parcel level. Disputed international borders are shown as recorded in the source dataset.
- Population and demographic data is from the American Community Survey (ACS) and may lag by 1–2 years from the current date.
- Drive time calculations use posted speed limits from OpenStreetMap and do not account for real-time traffic, construction, weather, or road closures.
- Elevation data is from the Copernicus 30-meter DEM. Local features smaller than 30 meters (buildings, small hills) may not be resolved.
- Distance calculations use the Haversine great-circle formula. Actual driving or walking distance is always longer than the straight-line result.
Not for safety-critical use
Do not rely on SimpleMapLab for navigation, emergency response, aviation, flood risk assessment, legal boundary disputes, or any situation where inaccurate data could cause harm. Always verify critical information with authoritative sources:
- County and property boundaries: your local county assessor or GIS department
- Flood zones: FEMA Flood Map Service Center
- Aviation data: FAA
- Elevation for engineering: a licensed surveyor
Third-party services
SimpleMapLab connects to third-party APIs ( OpenFreeMap, Photon, Nominatim, Valhalla, Open-Meteo). These services may experience downtime, return errors, or change their terms at any time. We are not responsible for the availability or accuracy of third-party services.
Blank maps
Blank maps are generated from public-domain boundary data and released under CC0. Boundary accuracy is limited to the resolution of the source dataset (US Census 2020 TIGER for US, Natural Earth 1:50m for international). Disputed borders are shown as the source dataset records them.
