Contact SimpleMapLab
SimpleMapLab is an independent operation. Every email is read by a human, not a queue. Use the email below for press, corrections, technical issues, partnerships, or general questions.
What kind of message are you sending?
A prefix on the subject line (“Press:”, “Correction:”, “Bug:”, etc.) gets your message sorted faster. Recommended categories and what to include:
| Subject prefix | What it's for | Typical reply |
|---|---|---|
| Press: … | Journalist with a deadline. Cite the study or finding you're writing about, your publication name, and your deadline. We respond first to deadline-tagged requests. | same day for tight deadlines; 1 business day otherwise |
| Correction: … | A data point, place name, distance, or boundary you believe is wrong. Tell me the page, the current value, what you think is correct, and a source if you have one. | 1–3 business days; fixes published within a further 48 hours |
| Bug: … | A tool isn't working as expected. Include the URL, what you expected vs. what you saw, your browser + OS, and a screenshot if possible. | 1–5 business days |
| Feature: … | A tool you wish existed, or a feature on an existing tool. Describe the workflow — what are you trying to accomplish? | read within a week, no per-message reply guaranteed |
| Map request: … | A country, state, or region you'd like added to the blank-maps library. | 1 week |
| Educator: … | You're using the site in a classroom and have a question about licensing, data sourcing, or what to attribute. (Short answer: blank maps are public domain, studies are CC-BY 4.0 with attribution.) | 1–3 business days |
| Partnership: … | Media partnership, educational licence, integration request, sponsorship pitch (note: we don't accept sponsored content; see Editorial Policy). | 1 week |
| Legal: … | Copyright concerns, DMCA notices, GDPR / CCPA data requests, or anything else legal. | 1–3 business days |
For journalists in a hurry
If you're filing today and need a quote, a data download, or a high-resolution map render, write “Press:” as the first word of your subject and include your deadline. Email hello@simplemaplab.com. We monitor email several times a day during European business hours and respond fastest to deadline-tagged requests.
Both currently published studies have their datasets at /studies/[slug]/data.json and /studies/[slug]/data.csv — free, CC-BY 4.0, attribution required:
Things we can't help with
To save us both time, here's what's out of scope:
- Building a custom commercial map / GIS service. SimpleMapLab is a free tools site; if you need bespoke routing, geocoding, or boundary data for a commercial product, the underlying providers (Mapbox, Maptiler, HERE, Google Maps Platform) are better suited.
- Tracking down a specific person via their location. The location-detection tools identify what county / city / ZIP an inputted coordinate falls in — they cannot reverse-look-up a person from their address or vice versa.
- Property-level real estate data. SimpleMapLab works at the ZIP, city, and county level. For parcel-level data, county assessor websites are the source.
- Live traffic, real-time weather, or commercial flight tracking.Drive-time calculations use free-flow road speeds, not live traffic. There are tool categories we don't cover.
- Paid content or sponsored links. See the Editorial Policy.
Before you write
Your question may already be answered on one of these pages:
- About SimpleMapLab — the site's history, scope, and operator
- Methodology — how every calculation works, with formulas and licences
- Editorial Policy — content standards, sourcing, AI disclosure, corrections process
- Disclaimer — accuracy and data limitations
- Privacy Policy — what data the site does and doesn't collect
- Terms of Use — licensing of tools, maps, and study datasets
How we sort the inbox
We read every email. Press requests with concrete deadlines are answered first. Data corrections are answered next — these tend to be specific and actionable. Bug reports and feature requests are queued and worked on in batches; you may not get a personal reply for general feedback, but the message is read and considered. Vague enthusiasm (“love the site!”) is appreciated but rarely replied to — please don't read silence as rudeness.
One more thing
SimpleMapLab is supported by display advertising. We do not accept sponsored content, paid links, “guest posts,” or any form of placement that would compromise editorial independence. Pitches of those kinds will get a polite no. Pitches that respect the editorial line — research collaboration, dataset partnerships, educational licensing — are welcome.
